I had recently overheard a conversation about how wonderful an acquaintance’s glass dildo was and wondered what all the fuss was about. Not knowing this person very well, it didn’t seem appropriate to ask her why it was so terrific, but it wasn’t the first time I had heard rave reviews about glass, so my curiosity peaked. A week or so later, I had completely forgotten about it when Jack and I visited a local adult toy store for a fresh bottle of our favorite lube. As we usually do, we decided to look around, and a display filled with glass offerings caught my eye.

At just $20 for the Don Wand Blue Swirl Mushroom Tip Rocket, this seemed like a reasonably priced trial run. I was NOT disappointed with my purchase!

The quality of the glass is excellent. It’s heavy and, you can rest, assured that this is not a fragile piece. Both the plain glass areas and the ridges are very smooth, free of any kind of bumps, pits, and rough edges. It’s refreshingly cool to the touch, both externally and internally – an unexpected, but welcomed, surprise. Upon insertion, the ridges play nicely on the G-spot and give the same sensation as some rubber toys, but because the dildo itself is solid and not flexible like rubber, the sensation is more consistent. But if you think the ridges are just for your G-spot, think again! Rubbing the ‘shaft’ of it long ways along your exterior regions is also quite erotic. After a couple of turns with “Blue,” as he’s now referred, I found that whether I’m in the mood for kinder, gentler playtime or something a little rougher, Blue is the perfect companion. Its styling – smooth yet ridged; unyielding and sleek; ridged but not rough — accommodate either style of play very well.

Since purchasing this item, I’ve done a little research. I was delighted to find that it’s quite a versatile toy. The type of glass used in these products is called Borosilicate also known as Pyrex (yes, like the dishes!) and is quite durable. It’s non-porous (doesn’t absorb lubes or body fluids); considered hypoallergenic; recommended for people with rubber, plastic, and latex allergies; able to be made warm, cool, or cold (by placing in warm or cool water or the refrigerator); safe to use with any type of lubricant; and easily cleaned. All this, and it’s attractive too!

As a matter of fact, I have to smile at a funny memory: On a recent trip out of town with family, Jack unpacked Blue and placed him on a mantle in our room as though it were a piece of art. I didn’t notice right away, but his brother popped into our room for a few minutes before dinner, and DID notice. His eyes got big, then his grin followed suit. Jack busted out laughing, and I had no clue what was going on … until after his brother left our room. Then we were both laughing all through dinner.

All in all, this is a toy I plan to enjoy often, and I’m now eager to add to my glass collection!
